New Girl

Während der Mittagspause saßen Sandra und ich ganz strebermäßig in der Library und lernten, als Sandra plötzlich eine SMS von unserer Kontaktperson Kathy erhielt, dass sie ganz dringend mit uns reden müsste. Während wir zum Treffpunkt hetzen malten wir uns die dramatischsten Szenarios aus, zum Beispiel, dass unsere Gastfamilie uns loswerden will, aber dann ging es gar nicht um uns. Nicht im eigentlichen Sinne.

Es stellte sich heraus, dass ein Mädchen aus Spanien ihr Auslandsjahr abbrechen wollte und die letzten Tage bis zum Heimflug nicht mehr in ihrer Gastfamilie verbringen konnte. Kathy hatte mit David gesprochen und er hatte sich angeboten sie aufzunehmen und Kathy wollte nur unsere Erlaubnis ob das für uns okay wäre. Erleichtert (versteht mich nicht falsch, natürlich ist es schrecklich, dass sie ihr Auslandsjahr abbrechen will) erklärten wir, dass das überhabt kein Problem ist.

Friday      26/09/14

During Lunchbreak when Sandra and I were learning in the library Sandra received a text form our contact person Kathy that said that she has to talk to us about something as soon as possible.

While we were racing to were we wanted to meet her we thought she would tell us our Hostfamily wanted to get rid of us or something but the whole thing was not actually about us. Not really.

It turned out that a girl from Spain wanted to cancel her exchange year and couldn’t spend the last few days until her flight home in her Hostfamily. Kathy had already talked to David and he offered to let the girl live with us. Kathy just wanted to ask us if we were okay with that. Relieved (don’t get me wrong, of course it’s horrible that she wants to cancel her exchange year) we told her that that is not a problem.

Als wir dann nach der Schule nach Hause kamen kam Kathy dann auch ziemlich bald und setzte das Mädchen, Alejandra, bei uns ab.

Sandra und ich haben uns sofort ihrer angenommen und sie zu all unseren endlich-Freitag Ritualen mitgeschleift und alle haben es ihr einfach total einfach gemacht sich bei uns zu Hause zu fühlen.

When we came home from school Kathy turned up pretty soon to drop the girl, Alejandra, at ours.

Sandra and I took her to all our finally-Friday rituals and everybody made it as easy as possible for her to feel at home with us.

Samstag      27/09/14

Am Samstag beschlossen Sandra und ich nach Newport zu fahren und dort in aller Ruhe zu lernen. Ich weiß nicht wie genau wir auf diese Idee gekommen sind, aber egal. Weil Alejandra sich mit HA ja nicht mehr auseinandersetzten muss, verbrachte sie den Samstag mit unserer Gastfamilie.

Saturday      27/09/14

On Saturday Sandra and I decided for some reason to go into Newport to study in peace. I have no idea why exactly we did that. Whatever. Because Alejandra didn’t have to care about homework any longer she spend the day with our Hostfamily.

Sonntag      28/09/14

Über den Sonntag gibt es nicht so viel zu berichten, außer vielleicht das Alejandra sich (allem Anschein nach) ziemlich wohl bei uns fühlte. Wir haben eigentlich das ganze Wochenende Überlegungen angestellt, wie wir das eine oder andere anstellen wenn sie bleibt und sie so mehr oder weniger fest mit eingeplant. Am Ende vom Tag hatten wir sie so weit, dass sie dem Ganzen nochmal eine weitere Woche geben wollte.

Sunday       28/09/14

There is not that much to report about the Sunday. Alejandra (apparently) felt comfortable with us. We actually considered how to do certain things if she would stay with us and actually just totally planed her in. (I am pretty sure that you can’t put it like this…) At the end of the day she was ready to give the whole thing another week.
